Looks like Salman Khan is trying to regain his spot on top of the Bollywood mountain as his new movie ‘Kick‘ has opened to stellar box office returns already since its July 25 release. Many Bollywood movies look to capitalize on the traditionally strong release date of Eid, a festival that marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and Shah Rukh Khan was no different last year with his box office hit ‘Chennai Express‘. Salman probably felt a bit slighted as his films usually ruled the Bollywood screens on Eid, with his past films ‘Wanted‘, ‘Dabaang‘, and the 4th highest grossing Bollywood film ‘Ek Tha Tiger‘ representing his recent stranglehold on the holiday. Well, ‘Kick’ is off to a good start as it has already made 86 crore (roughly $14.5 million) in its opening weekend.
‘Kick‘ is an action-romance hybrid in which Salman plays a character named Devil who seeks to truly seize the moment everyday, resulting in action packed scenes that even have Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan taking notice. Amitabh was so impressed with ‘Kick’s chase sequence, supposedly the longest ever in a Bollywood film, that he took a shot at Hollywood when he stated “Did you see the trailer of ‘KICK’..baaadooom !! Compares with anything that the other ‘wood’ brings out from their high end films ! See for yourself” and linked to a trailer of ‘Kick’.
